Equilibrated Ordinary Chondrite L6, Shock Stage S6.

PETROGRAFIA:

It exhibits a well-preserved black fusion crust and signs that it was discovered shortly after its fall. It has a chondritic texture with some definite chondrules in relation to the matrix. The chondrules vary from rounded to elongated, fibrous and radiated to broken and fragmented ranging from 0.3 to 5mm in diameter with very little matrix. Mineralogically it consists of olivine, pyroxene (bearing), kamacite-taenite and smaller amounts of troilite and plagiocase (maskelinite). The matrix consists of fragments of condyles. Olivine Fa25.2, pyroxene Fs21.6. Contains shock veins and maskelinite.

Based on texture and composition, it is an ordinary chondrite L6, Shock Stage S6.

HISTÓRIA:

A single fragment of the meteorite, with a mass of 118g and covered by a black fusion crust, was found by Professor H. Shigame of the Federal University of Bahia, on a field trip near the city of Rio do Pires. Then it was donated to Mr. W. Carvalho, who exchanged a slice (12g) with the National Museum / UFRJ. Description obtained in the documents of M. E. Zucolotto.
